BAAG Activities June-December 2017

In July we had the journalists’ trip to Afghanistan. Four journalists and one photographer, accompanied by our Director, arrived in Kabul before heading out to Daikundi province to visit development project and meet stakeholders. A full report of the trip can be viewed in the shared drive. Trip participants had positive feedback about the trip and several of their articles were published by media outlets as a result.

Following the journalists’ trip, we held a mini social media campaign to share some of the stunning photos taken during the trip - they can be viewed on our twitter account @AfghanAgencies. In the meantime, here are some photos of the journalists in action!

On 05-06 September Jawed and I attended the International Roundtable in Tallinn. We brought with us two speakers – Mark Bowden and Shirazuddin Siddiqi to share the Afghanistan perspective on security and aid. A small section of our Aid in a Conflict Zone bulletin was used for a background reading document for the conference.

On 07 November we held our final national roundtable entitled Rethinking Poverty Reduction in Afghanistan. The event was held in collaboration with Chatham House with guest speakers Mark Bowden, former UN SRSG & UN Humanitarian Coordinator for Afghanistan and Shaheer Shahriar, former Deputy Minister to the Afghan Ministry for Rural Rehabilitation and Development. In attendance were government, donor, and civil society representatives. A report of the event will be published before the end of the year.

From 21-25 November we completed a social media campaign called #education2empower. The campaign highlighted the important role education plays in poverty reduction and empowerment in Afghanistan.
